Post-game Notes: O's top KC

Chris Tillman got a no decision in his Major League debut. In 4 2/3, he gave up three runs and seven hits. He allowed three solo homers. He had given up just five homers in 18 starts at Triple-A. Tillman threw 93 pitches, 58 for strikes and has a one-start ERA of 5.79. Matt Albers got the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He threw just 22 pitches. After giving up a key homer last night, Jim Johnson pitched the last two innings to record his second save of 2009. Johnson, who fanned four over two frames, also got a save on May 26 vs. Toronto. Johnson threw 19 pitches, 17 for strikes. Major League ERA leader Zack Greinke threw 116 pitches and gave up two runs over six innings. The Royals have lost his last five starts and nine of his last 11 starts. O's Player of the Game - Adam Jones went 2 for 5 with a double, homer and 3 RBI. He entered with just two hits his previous 18 at bats. Adam Jones hit a two-run homer in the first off Greinke, the third straight game he has hit a first-inning homer. His 17th homer traveled 403 feet. Jones has now hit five homers in his last 12 games. Nolan Reimold went 0 for 3 with two walks to snap his five-game batting streak. Reimold went 11 for 17 during those five games. With the two walks, he has now reached base safely in 17 of his last 25 and 26 of his last 48 plate appearances. A Real Rarity - The Royals did not record an assist tonight for the first time in franchise history. Tonight's game was delayed 41 minutes at the start by rain. Time of game was 3:13. Tonight's attendance was 19,741. Nick Markakis went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Markakis had a double in the first inning and 10 of his last 20 hits have been extra-base hits. The O's won for just the third time in 12 games since the All-Star break. They improve to 3-4 vs. KC, 8-15 in July and 27-23 in home games in 2009. Minor League Note - Frederick's Pedro Beato pitched seven shutout innings tonight as the Keys beat Salem, 1-0. He allowed just four hits with no walks and six strikeouts. He did not get the win because Frederick scored the game's only run in the 8th. Peato is 5-7, 4.53 in 20 starts this season. He has pitched to an ERA of 3.65 in five July starts.
