Post-game Notes: O's win series at Chicago

Finally! - By taking the third and deciding game of this series, the Orioles won their first series since the All-Star break. They had been 0-9-1 in ten series since the break. The O's also won the season series, 5 wins to 4 over Chicago, for just the second time in the last ten seasons. They also won the season series in 2007, 5 wins to 3. Adam Jones snapped an 0 for 13 stretch with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. He then left the game with a "mild mid back muscle spasm." Jones entered today 2 for 24 at bat and was hitting only .130 over his last 12 games. Berken was workin' - Winning pitcher Jason Berken improved to 3-11, 6.49 as he gave up two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, throwing 101 pitches. It's the 7th time in 16 starts, Berken allowed 2ER or less. Nolan Reimold went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer. It's his 12th homer of the year and 2nd in the last four games. Reimold now has a ten-game batting streak and is hitting .308 (12 for 39) during the streak with two homers and 6 RBI. Reimold is batting .304-3-15 with seven doubles since the All-Star game. Brian Roberts went 3 for 4 with his league-leading 47th double and two runs scored. Over his last five games, he is 9 for 21 with four homers and 8 RBI. Roberts is 10 for 24 on this road trip. Nick the stick - Nick Markakis went 2 for 4 today with a run scored. Over his last 16 games, he is batting .377-2-9. Since the All-Star game, Markakis is hitting .351-7-28. Felix Pie had 2 RBI in the win with a sac fly and solo homer. He is 10 for 25 (.400) over his last ten games with two homers and 6 RBI. Matt Wieters was 2 for 4 after starting this series, 0 for 8.

The pen, again - The O's bullpen has had a good road trip and today combined to allow just one run over 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. In the six games on the road trip, the Baltimore pen has allowed just 2ER over 17 1/3 innings for an ERA of 1.04. Losing pitcher Mark Buehrle falls to 11-7, 3.92. Since he pitched a perfect game July 23rd vs. Tampa, he is 0-4, 6.21 over his last six starts. The Orioles have won three of their last four and are 3-3 on this road trip with three to play at Minnesota. The Birds are 51-73 on the season, 21-42 on the road, 14-16 in one-run games and 7-15 in August.
