Postgame comments from Chen, Wieters and Hardy

It was kind of a bend, but don't break night for Wei-Yin Chen against Boston tonight. He gave up a career-high 12 hits but Boston never got more than a run in any inning against him. They got to him for four runs over 5 2/3 innings to beat the Orioles 4-3 tonight in the series finale. Chen was asked about facing Boston's tough lineup that has the knack for fouling off pitches and extending innings against a starting pitcher. "That is something you need to overcome as a pitcher," Chen said through his interpreter. "Today I allowed a lot of hits, that is what I need to work on, but I didn't allow a big inning and that is what I'm happy about. "This was my first game of the season and compared to the previous first game, I feel even better than the year before. So I don't think there will be too big a problem." Chen is now 2-3 with an ERA of 5.29 lifetime against Boston. "You know they fought some balls off and just into the outfield," catcher Matt Wieters said. "Got a couple of hits that fell into the right spot. He threw the ball well tonight. Got a couple of balls in the middle of the plate, especially to (Xander) Bogaerts but other than that he threw the ball real well." Orioles starting pitchers worked to an ERA of 4.86 in this series, giving up 24 hits and nine runs over 16 2/3 innings. "It's going to be a battle anytime you play those guys," Wieters said. "They are professional hitters and will go up there and give you a good at-bat. At the same time, he threw the ball well and we had a chance to win. We didn't score enough." Zach Britton had another strong two-inning outing, giving up just one hit over the eighth and ninth innings. He fanned two, throwing 31 pitches. "He was throwing the ball well all spring and brought it here," Wieters said. "He's got outstanding stuff and no hitter wants to go up there and and face it when it's moving like that." J.J. Hardy talked about the series loss and O's scoring just seven runs in the three games. "They threw well against us for three games, but luckily it's a long season and we'll see them again," he said. "It's going to come together. [Chris Davis] squared up a couple of balls, which was nice to see. [Adam Jones], Wieters got a bunch of hits. The offense will come around, I don't think we are worried about it." Hardy had a one-word aswer when asked about the quick turnaround the Orioles face with a game at 1:08 Friday afternoon in Detroit and the news that their plane leaving Baltimore is going to be late. They may not get in the air until 1 a.m. "Brutal," he said.
