Postgame comments from Showalter

SARASOTA, Fla. - Alexi Casilla will start at shortstop for the Orioles in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays in Dunedin. Center fielder Adam Jones is a surprise addition to the travel roster after getting back to Sarasota today. Left fielder David Lough is day-to-day. He was sent home after lunch today to "take it easy," said manager Buck Showalter. "Get away from some of the wear and tear. Get him out of the weight room, too," Showalter said. Showalter will attempt to stretch out Suk-min Yoon and give him multiple innings, but probably not in his next outing. Yoon retired three straight batters today after a leadoff single. "I thought he threw the ball well. He threw it over," Showalter said. "You know there's a lot of emotion flying around there. I thought he presented himself well first time out. "You think about the whirlwind he's had in his life the last two months. To sit here today and get that outing behind him..." Yoon thinks he's about 20 days away from being in midseason form. Showalter won't challenge his math. "First of all, he would know," Showalter said. "Most guys, as much as he's pitched, they know when they're right or not. We're familiarizing ourselves with him, too. If I had to give an educated guess, I'd go with what he told you. I haven't heard that from Dave (Wallace) or anybody yet." Yoon threw 11 pitches, which wasn't much work considering his layoff. "When you look at where he's been the last two weeks, just to get that out of the way and get on a schedule, get on some type of routine," Showalter said. "I'm sure it was exciting for him. I thought he handled his emotions well. If he was (nervous), you couldn't really tell." Caleb Joseph caught Yoon and left for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the seventh. "Caleb's really handled himself well behind the plate," Showalter said. "He is much improved catching since the first time I saw him. It's a real tribute to Don Werner and of course, Caleb. John Russell's picked up where he left off. "He's presenting himself as an option for us to go along with the great year he had offensively (at Double-A Bowie). I've been impressed with Caleb behind the plate." Showalter let Chris Tillman start the sixth inning and Francisco Arcia hit a home run to break a scoreless tie. "We took two pitchers out (this spring) after they gave up a home run. That's not much fun," Showalter said. "We just wanted to get him up a sixth time. I looked at Dave and said, 'Really?' But he's right where he needs to be." Darren O'Day stranded runners on second and third by striking out three straight batters. "Darren did what Darren does. That was typical O'Day," Showalter said. The Phillies won't let the Orioles use a designated hitter in Monday's split-squad game in Clearwater. "(Brian) Matusz is acting like he's excited about it," Showalter said, grinning. "Kevin Gausman is sincere about being excited about it."
