Potomac's Michael Taylor honored as Player of the Week again

Potomac Nationals outfielder Michael Taylor has been honored as the Carolina League Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season, which ended Monday. It is the third time this season Taylor received the citation. Other P-Nats honored this season include current Double-A Harrisburg Senators shortstop Jason Martinson (twice), right-handers Taylor Hill and A.J. Cole (twice), as well as right-hander Blake Schwartz. Schwartz is scheduled as the Game 2 starter tomorrow night in the best-o-three playoff series against Lynchburg. The 22-year-old Taylor hit .435 (10-for-23) in seven games with five doubles, one homer, five RBIs, seven runs, fiive walks and six stolen bases. Taylor is from Coral Springs, Fla., out of Westminster Academy, a sixth-round selection in 2009. He is considered the No. 6 Nationals prospect by MLB.com and 11th-ranked Nationals prospect according to Baseball America. Taylor finished the 2013 regular season leading the Carolina League in doubles (41) and extra-base hits (57), while ranking second in stolen bases (51) and total bases (217). Taylor had the third-most RBIs (87) and fourth-best total of runs scored (79). Game 1 between Potomac and Lynchburg in the Carolina League divisional playoffs are tonight in Woodbridge, Va.
