Potomac's Pfitzner Stadium sustains damage from fire, all employees accounted for

Pfitzner Stadium, home of the high Single-A Potomac Nationals, was damaged by a fire today in Woodbridge, Va. A team official, who was at the stadium when the fire broke out, said the fire originated in the front office area, which is one story above the concession stands. He said the fire began around 4:40 p.m. The fire has been extinguished. "There was a fire located on the front office level. Everyone is accounted for and has been evacuated. No one is unaccounted for," according to the team official. No players were injured. The Potomac Nationals are on the road tonight facing Salem. The team official said, to the best of the club's knowledge, there was not damage to the home and visitor clubhouses, seating bowl, concession stands or press box. Fire personnel continue to investigate the scene. A fire official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was a one-alarm fire with personnel responding from Prince William County and the city of Manassas. The fire official reported the second floor front offices were destroyed, which included valuable baseball memorabilia, signed baseballs, bats and pictures. The fire reportedly originated from an inside gas leak. He said that it did not appear that the concession stands or other parts of the stadium were damaged. Potomac returns home to begin a home stand July 4 versus Frederick.
