Pregame notes and updates from Chicago

CHICAGO - Orioles left-hander Wade Miley said his lower left calf felt fine today. He took a comebacker off that calf in the fifth inning of his Orioles debut last night.

"No news is good news," manager Buck Showalter said today of Miley. "Richie (Bancells, head athletic trainer) felt good about it last night. It didn't swell much last night. I haven't heard anything from Richie today on it, which is good news, and I'm not expecting anything. He should be OK."

Left-hander T.J. McFarland, on the disabled list retroactive to June 29 with left knee inflammation, will start a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday. Showalter was not sure which affiliate he will join.

Lee went on the Baysox DL on June 5 with a lat strain and has not started for Bowie since May 23. He is 5-0 with a 2.98 ERA in eight games and is ranked by Baseball America as the Orioles' No. 6 prospect. Showalter said he would not rule out Lee joining the Orioles when rosters expand in September.

"Potentially (he is an option)," Showalter said. "We've been challenged (to get a) left-handed reliever for a couple years. So I wouldn't rule anything out."

Showalter said Hunter Harvey will report to Sarasota on Monday to begin his rehab from his recent Tommy John surgery. And as expected, Orioles outfielder Joey Rickard went to Sarasota to continue the rehab of his right thumb, which remains in a splint.

Showalter said catcher Matt Wieters, who tonight is making his seventh consecutive start over the last eight days, will not start one game this weekend.

"He's feeling good. He's going to have either Saturday or Sunday off from starting. Wait until we get through today to see if it's going to be Saturday or Sunday," Showalter said.

Showalter said he was not surprised to see tonight's White Sox starter and former Oriole Miguel Gonzalez throwing well right now.

"Not at all. I think everybody is happy about it, too," Showalter said. "He's a good man, good father, good husband. He did some great things for us and I'm glad to see him find a home here. Seems to be healthy now and I think everyone is happy for him. He's real easy to pull for. We felt like there was a good chance he was going to work his way into someone else's rotation."
