Pregame notes on rotation, Machado, Casilla, Stinson and more

The Orioles now have two confirmed starters for their four-game series against the Rangers at Camden Yards. Ubaldo Jimenez will start Monday night's opener and Chris Tillman will start on Wednesday. Reliever T.J. McFarland remains a prime candidate to take the mound Tuesday, and manager Buck Showalter said he's leaning toward using left-hander Wei-Yin Chen on normal rest Thursday. Kevin Gausman will throw a bullpen session Monday in Aberdeen. Nothing is scheduled for him beyond that day. The Rangers are starting Joe Saunders, Nick Martinez, Nick Tepesch and Yu Darvish in the four-game series. Bud Norris is eligible to come off the disabled list on July 7, and the Orioles will have a better idea whether he will be able to make his start that night at Nats Park after he throws a bullpen session in the next two or three days. Making an "educated guess," Showalter said he expects to learn the result of Manny Machado's appeal hearing within the next day or two. Meanwhile, Jemile Weeks is playing for Aberdeen and can make the drive to Camden Yards if needed. Showalter reminded reporters that the Orioles may do nothing and simply go with the remaining 24 players on their current roster. In order to replace Machado with another infielder, the Orioles would need to make a corresponding roster move and send down a pitcher. Triple-A Norfolk infielder Alexi Casilla will undergo surgery on Tuesday to remove a broken hamate bone from his right wrist. Casilla was batting .285/.346/.354 with seven doubles, one home run, 16 RBIs and eight steals in 10 tries over 41 games with the Tides. Josh Stinson's scheduled start for Norfolk last night was pushed back to Tuesday due to a strained lat muscle. Stinson did some light throwing yesterday and is expected to avoid the disabled list. However, the Orioles are unsure whether he will take the mound Tuesday or require additional recovery time. Steve Johnson threw a simulated game in Sarasota yesterday and his right shoulder is feeling much better. Dylan Bundy will throw in the bullpen Monday in Aberdeen before making Thursday night's start at Single-A Frederick. The Orioles, Mariners and Dodgers are the only teams in the majors who are four games or more above .500 but have losing records at home.
