Revere shooting for May 3 return

PHILADELPHIA - Nationals center fielder Ben Revere gave an update today on his rehab from a strained right oblique. He has not ventured to baseball related activities, but is concentrating now on strengthening other parts of his body. He is on the disabled list, retroactive to April 5.

"Definitely taking my time with this injury," he said. "But hopefully the process goes quickly. I am doing more and more activities. I am going to Miami do a lot more stuff, then go home do a lot more stuff. Eventually hopefully do some baseball activities and then get back."

What has he been able to do?

It's like one part of your body wasn't firing doing certain activities and may cause your oblique to do most of the work. Sometimes, especially in baseball, we twist so much you overwork something, and we don't have many days off, so it may blow out. Just trying to strengthen back up my legs and core.

"Just doing that and then eventually start doing some rotational stuff here in the next few days and see how it feels. If it feels good, then do some more stuff just keep building."

Revere hopes he can return in less than a month.

"Most definitely. More games I have to watch, I'm going to lose my mind," Revere said. "But we're winning, our team is doing so well, this is a great team. Just watching them is so much fun.

"My main goal, hopefully around my birthday, May 3. Hopefully, I will be playing some games. That's my goal or doing something close to it."
