Saturday night baseball: Angels at Orioles

Game Preview LA Angels (68-45) at Orioles (48-67) After a night of amazing offense and a 16-6 win on Friday over the Los Angeles Angels, the Orioles will look for two staright in the series when the clubs meet at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night. Brian Matusz (1-1, 7.04) pitches for the Orioles vs. John Lackey (5-5, 3.88). The Orioles have won two in a row just once since the All-Star game. They posted back-to-back wins on July 29 and 30 vs. Kansas City. Felix Pie became the fourth Oriole to ever hit for the cycle and the Birds produced season-highs in runs, hits and extra-base hits in Friday's 10-run win. Pie had an RBI double in the first, a solo homer in the third and two hits during the O's seven-run seventh - an infield single and a two-run triple. Pie, who raised his batting average from .234 to .254, was the 7th Major Leaguer this year to hit for the cycle. He joins Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr. and Aubrey Huff as the only O's players ever to do it. The O's 16 runs and 19 hits were the most since they had 16 runs on 22 hits at Detroit last August 17th. The O's tied club records with nine doubles and 12 extra-base hits. They raised their team average on the season two points, from .268 to .270. Chris Tillman allowed 3ER over 6 2/3 to pick up his first Major League win. Before Friday's outburst, the O's had scored 12 total runs over the last five games and had scored three runs or less in 14 of 26 games in the second half. For one night at least, the O's slowed down a red hot team. LA has won 10 of its last 15 games and 17 of its last 23 road games. The Angels, who have the second best record in the AL, are 4 ½ games ahead of Texas atop the Western Division. LA, which is 19-8 since the All-Star break, has recorded ten or more hits in 13 of 16 and 31 of its last 44 games.
