Scott updates himself

Luke Scott took two rounds of batting practice today, but he didn't "turn anything loose." "I didn't think it would be a good idea," he said. "Just kind of build into it and be smart. Part of me wants to just go all out, but the gray hairs on my head tell me otherwise." Scott estimates that it's 50-50 whether he's ready to come off the disabled list on Tuesday. "It's a possibility," he said. Scott received a cortisone injection in his right shoulder yesterday and is scheduled to play for Double-A Bowie tomorrow and Monday. "There's no pain. Maybe a little discomfort from the needle," he said. "I just haven't swung a bat for 12 days or done any physical activity, so I need to get back in shape a little bit. We'll see what happens tomorrow when I go down and take some at-bats in Double-A. "I can play with pain. I've played with pain in different parts of my body, but that's not what's stopping me. When you can't even get the head out in batting practice, there's something wrong, and that's what I was dealing with. "It does feel better, but I've got to get back in shape and take some good swings. This is the major leagues. You can't just roll out from not doing anything - no running, no hitting, no lifting for 12 days - and go out and try to compete full-bore while you're injured at the same time, structural damage. If it was just pain and it didn't affect my bat speed, I'd be out there every single day. Eat my Advil and do whatever I can and go forward. But you have to make honest decisions whenever it's not because of pain. "If you have a flat tire, you could have all the horses under the hood, but if your lug nuts are loose, you're not going to run with the other ones. It's just not going to happen. You can press on the gas all you want. You're going to go, but you're not going to run with the big boys. That's how it is at this level. This is the best of the best."
