Showalter with injury updates, Jones comments (game update)

DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Orioles took a 2-0 lead on Toronto today on RBI doubles by Steve Clevenger and Ryan Flaherty in the top of the fourth. Clevenger is 2-for-2 today with a pair of opposite field doubles to left and he is now 11-for-21 this spring. Miguel Gonzalez has rolled through the Jays lineup through three innings allowing just one hit, a one-out single by Colby Rasmus in the top of the first. He is facing Toronto's regulars here this afternoon. Gonzalez has walked none and fanned two. Before today's game Adam Jones talked briefly about rejoining the Orioles today for the first time in a week. He went back to Baltimore for the birth of his first son on Wednesday. He didn't play in the home game Saturday so he made the trip here today. Regulars don't make too many road trips in the spring. "I need the at-bats. Nothing wrong with it," Jones said. "It's just a road trip. If we need to start today, let's start today. But it's spring training and we've got two more weeks. Let's get my body back in shape after a couple of days off. Let's get it going." Jones was asked if the experience of becoming a father was emotional for him. "It's fine, but it's separate from baseball," he said. "My personal life is my personal life. It's been fun and I'm good." Buck Showalter provided a few brief injury updates earlier. Showalter said he spoke with Manny Machado's doctor today and they are hopeful that Machado will fly to an appointment with Dr. Neal Attrache next Wednesday for the appointment on Thursday. The appointment could come, Showalter said, anytime between March 20 and 24 with the hope it happens as soon as the 20th. At that point Machado should be cleared to play in games. Showalter said David Lough is somewhat better today. He's been dealing with a stiff neck. He said hopefully Alexi Casilla will play tomorrow after he was scratched today due to swelling in his left knee. Showalter said Matt Wieters ankle feels good today and he is scheduled to return to the lineup Monday night for the Orioles. Update: The Blue Jays cut the O's lead to 2-1 in the fourth. Gonzalez got the first two outs before allowing four straight singles. He got Dioner Navarro on a groundout to strand the bases loaded. Alfredo Aceves came on in the last of the fifth for the O's, replacing Gonzalez. In his longest outing this spring, Gonzalez went four innings allowing five hits and one run with no walks and two strikeouts. He threw 63 pitches, 42 for strikes.
