Showalter on Norris, Bundys and more

JUPITER, Fla. - Hunter Harvey struck out a batter in a scoreless eighth inning in the Orioles' 8-2 loss to the Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium.

Henry Urrutia grounded into a double play to end the game, as the Orioles fell to 3-8 this spring.

Here's a sampling from manager Buck Showalter, starting with his critique of starter Bud Norris:

buck-showalter-head-down-alcs-sidebar.jpg"Not where he's going to be, he needs to be. Got his pitch count in. He's fine, he's healthy, so we'll go from that.

"It's a process. The biggest thing is getting your arm strength up and ready to go. He'll get better. The results will get better."

* On whether he saw a difference in Norris today compared to first start: "Not really. Very similar, very similar. Just threw more pitches."

* On Norris telling reporters he had back discomfort after first start: "First I've heard of it, but I believe it. Back flare up? We'll look into it. Thanks."

* On both Bundy brothers pitching today: "Both of them had a long road back. You take that in. If I was his dad, I'd take a picture of that box score tomorrow. That was cool."

* On Harvey: "Harvey was good again. Keeping him here, he's going to have some limitations on him innings-wise this year, so as far as getting him down there and stretching him out, it's no big deal. There are going to be X amount of innings."

* On Dylan Bundy: "I thought Dylan was better. You see a lot of guys coming off that surgery, you see a lot of fluctuations in velocity. This gun here was all over the place. It wasn't even close. I thought the ball came out of his hand pretty good. I thought Dylan was better today. He's been a little better every time out and that's what you hope to see."

* On Catcher Jonah Heim: "Good to see Jonah Heim. You can see why everybody (likes him). He can really receive and throw, switch-hitter. I like him. He's got a chance. That's a good look."

* On Jonathan Schoop: "The double play Jon turned in the first inning, that doesn't get turned. You kind of go, 'Wow.'"
