Showalter provides injury updates

Mark Trumbo is available to pinch-hit tonight for the Orioles despite not being in the lineup with back spasms.

Manager Buck Showalter said Trumbo is "better, improved, close."

Showalter-Media-Scrum-Sidebar.jpg"A lot more of a potential option tonight than he was last night," Showalter said.

"It has nothing to do with post-Tampa series, but we have a day game tomorrow and it'll be a quick turnaround, but he's close. He wanted to give it a shot tonight, but we're going to be a little cautious with it. He's feeling better, it seems like, every passing hour.

"It's one of those things where you kind of lean on him because he's got a real good feel for this. He's had it before. He talked about one time he tried to go too quick, but he's close."

The guess here is that Trumbo sits out Sunday's game and is full-go for Monday night against the Red Sox. We'll see.

Showalter and executive vice president Dan Duquette have talked about bringing up another outfielder and they'll continue to weigh their options.

"I'm sure we'll talk at some point again," Showalter said.

Reliever Darren O'Day felt good after yesterday's simulated game and will come off the disabled list Sunday or Monday.

"Sounds good. Haven't heard anything negative," Showalter said. "I think the decision's going to be whether it's Sunday or Monday."
