Skole's rehab is "on track," top prospect could play fall or winter ball

The Nationals' 2012 minor league Player of the Year, third baseman Matt Skole, is making good progress as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery back in April. While with Double-A Harrisburg, Skole's elbow was injured early in the season on a collision at first base while attempting to field a throw. It is unlikely, however, that Skole will return to play for Harrisburg during the regular season, according to Nationals director of player development Doug Harris. Harris is hopeful that Skole will be ready for fall or winter ball. Skole has played in the Arizona Fall League in the past. He played first base almost exclusively in Arizona last October and November. Recently, Skole has been taking part in light baseball-related activities as he builds up his strength in his arm and body. According to Harris, Skole has been doing "one handed swings, some light throwing." "(Skole) will increase his volume and intensity incrementally," Harris added. In 2012, Skole hit .291 in 119 minor league games, with 27 homers and 104 RBIs. Entering the 2013 season, Skole was ranked No. 11 Nationals prospect by MLB.com.
