Solis, Treinen and Voth headline big night for Nationals' affiliates in postseason

A glimpse into the possible future of the Nationals' starting rotation is on display as three affiliates continue their postseasons tonight. Double-A Harrisburg opens the best-of-five Eastern League Championship Series tonight in Trenton, N.J., against the Trenton Thunder. Right-hander Blake Treinen takes the hill for Harrisburg. Treinen was part of the three-team trade that sent Michael Morse to Seattle in the offseason. Ian Krol, A.J. Cole and Treinen were traded to the Nationals as part of the deal. All three have excelled in the Nationals system. Left-hander Krol has made it to the big leagues as a reliever, Cole is one of the Senators' five starters and Treinen has been steady this season, going 6-7 with a 3.64 ERA. Treinen beat Richmond on Sept. 1, going five innings, allowing just one hit and one run with seven strikeouts. Tonight will be his 21st start for Harrisburg. He is making his second start since returning from the disabled list July 23. Down two games to one in their best-of-five series, high Single-A Potomac faces an elimination game tonight in Salem against the Red Sox's affiliate. Lefty Sammy Solis gets the call for the P-Nats. Solis went five innings last Wednesday in Game 1 of the Northern Division semfinals, allowing just one run on three hits and getting a no-decision in a game the P-Nats eventually won 2-1 in 14 innings over Lynchburg. When this series is over, Solis will prepare for the Arizona Fall League. He is making his return from Tommy John surgery, and alongside Robbie Ray and Matt Purke, represent the next wave of top left-handed prospects in the organization. Low Single-A Hagerstown trots out right-hander Austin Voth, who has been outstanding since his call-up from short-season Single A Auburn. Voth faces Savannah tonight as the Suns look to go up 2-0 in the best-of-five South Atlantic League finals. This will be Voth's fourth start for Hagerstown and second in the postseason. In his first playoff game versus West Virginia, Voth went five innings and did not surrender a run. He gave up just three hits, two walks and struck out five. There is a good chance you will see Solis, Treinen and Voth advancing next season as the Nationals continue to build to their starting pitching depth with talented hurlers in the minors.
