Some stats on the O's against New York and more from Chris Davis

The Orioles host the Yankees twice today, weather-permitting, in a split doubleheader at 12:05 and 7:05 p.m. The Orioles could finish at .500 at 81-81 if they get in all three games over the next two days and win all three.

The Orioles won the last two games of their series with Toronto, scoring 19 runs on 30 hits in that four-game series after scoring zero runs on 12 hits in three games at Boston last weekend.

The Yankees (87-72) have clinched an American League wild card playoff berth, their first postseason berth since 2012. This is New York's most wins since going 95-67 in 2012.

The Orioles are 7-9 versus the Yankees this season after going 13-6 last year. The Orioles have won 10 of their past 13 home games against New York and are 18-13 versus the Yankees since June 21, 2014.

Here are a few more quotes from first baseman Chris Davis that did not appear in this story yesterday when Davis talked about his uncertain future, pending free agency and winning the Most Valuable Oriole award.

Is winning MVO twice in three years a big deal for Davis?: "Yeah, it is. The last couple of weeks I've thought about it a little bit. It is something that is important to me especially after last year and everything I went through. Trying to come back this year and bounce back in a big year for me personally. I am honored to win the award again. Proud to have it."

Davis passing along some credit for his big year: "A lot of that was (hitting coach) Scott Coolbaugh. We have so much history and he knows how to handle me and what makes me tick. He was big for me all year. He helped me keep that mindset of not getting too high or too low and staying with the process. Being able to finish strong and have this second half has been a big reason why I've had such a good year."

Comments he and Matt Wieters made about savoring the last few games were not necessarily a goodbye to fans: "No, I'm not saying goodbye. I can't speak for Matt, but what I was saying was just this particular group of guys. Whether we are back or with other teams, some guys are not going to be back. Just like every year. This particular group of guys is extremely special and we have a lot of pending free agents. It is unrealistic to think that everyone will be back. That is what I meant by that. No, I am not saying goodbye."
