Stinson clears waivers, Pearce clears the fence

NEW YORK - The Orioles announced that Josh Stinson has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk.

Stinson must decide by Sunday whether to accept the assignment, which he's expected to do. Otherwise, he'd forfeit his salary. And he's likely to resurface at Camden Yards as one of the passengers on the shuttle between Norfolk and Baltimore.

Stinson has registered a 6.23 ERA in eight games with the Orioles, and he's 0-3 with a 5.19 ERA in nine games (two starts) with Norfolk.

The Orioles lead the Yankees 5-1 in the fifth.

Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth, Mark Teixeira had a solo shot in the bottom half, and Steve Pearce hit a two-run shot in the fifth.

Cruz has two homers in the last three games after failing to connect since June 3.

In his last four games, Pearce is 7-for-15 with four doubles, two homers, seven RBIs and four runs scored. The Orioles have totaled 17 runs in those games.

Pearce is 15-for-37 since June 6.

Bud Norris hadn't allowed a home run in his last two starts, three of four and four of six.

Norris has surrendered one run and three hits in five innings today, with two walks, four strikeouts and a home run. He's thrown 82 pitches, 54 for strikes.

In his last three starts, Norris has allowed two runs over 19 2/3 innings.
