Swept out of Toronto: O's lose series final at Rogers Centre

Well, at least Adam Jones stayed in the game after getting hit by a pitch on his left hand tonight. Other than that, not a lot went right again this evening for the Orioles in a 4-1 loss at Rogers Centre. Toronto swept the three-game series by a 18-9 score and is 33-7 against the Orioles in the last 40 games between the two teams at home in Toronto. Losing pitcher Jason Hammel entered this start having allowed just three homers all year in 55 innings. Tonight, he gave up four solo shots as Edwin Encarnacion, Rajai Davis, Brett Lawrie and Colby Rasmus took him out of the park. Hammel gave up more than two runs for just the third time in ten starts. His record falls to 6-2 with a 3.06 ERA. Jones did not get a hit tonight as his 20-game batting streak came to an end. He grounded out twice and walked in addition to getting hit by a pitch. The only Orioles run tonight was scored in the second when Ryan Flaherty produced an RBI infield single to score Mark Reynolds who had walked. The Orioles somehow have still managed to stay tied for first place as Tampa Bay lost this afternoon to Chicago. The Orioles have now lost five in a row and eight of the last ten to drop to 29-22. They are 11-13 over the last 24 games and will be off tomorrow before a series in St. Petersburg with the Rays over the weekend.
