Dylan Bundy and Hunter Harvey are two of the more intriguing names among the Orioles minor league pitchers attending next week's minicamp in Sarasota.
Manager Buck Showalter, pitching coach Dave Wallace and bullpen coach Dom Chiti want to check on the organization's top prospects. Bundy was shut down in the Arizona Fall League due to tightness in his right forearm. Harvey was shut down in the fall instructional league with discomfort in his right elbow.
Bundy is out of minor league options and may break camp as a reliever. Harvey hasn't pitched in a game since July 2014. They're former first-round picks in 2011 and 2013, respectively.
The three-day camp, which begins Monday, exists primarily for the Orioles to check on the physical condition of young players coming off injuries or recovering from surgery. It also gives the staff a head start in bonding with new players such as Vance Worley and left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser, who also will report to the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
The Orioles claimed Worley off waivers from the Pirates and acquired Riefenhauser from the Mariners in the Mark Trumbo/Steve Clevenger trade.
The rest of the camp roster includes pitchers Jeff Beliveau, Parker Bridwell, Jason Garcia, Mychal Givens, Joe Gunkel, Donnie Hart, David Hess, Chris Lee, Ariel Miranda, Tanner Scott, Ashur Tolliver and Andrew Triggs, and catchers Chris O'Brien and Jonah Heim.
Double-A Bowie pitching coach Alan Mills and Orioles special assignment pitching coordinator Ramon Martinez also are part of the staff.
Beliveau appeared in five games with the Rays last year and allowed four runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings before undergoing surgery in April to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Bridwell, added to the 40-man roster to protect him in the Rule 5 draft, was shut down at Double-A Bowie with a month remaining in the season due to elbow tendinitis. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection from Dr. James Andrews and rehabbed for about six weeks in Sarasota.
O'Brien, the son of former major league catcher Charlie O'Brien, is recovering from a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Heim was shut down for three months last summer with a left foot injury.
I'm mostly curious about Scott, 21, a left-hander whose fastball was clocked at 100 mph in the Arizona Fall League. He was named to the AFL's Top Prospects team.
Update: The Orioles are expected to announce their new assistant hitting coach on Thursday, and he could join the staff in Sarasota.
Also, Showalter is flying back to Baltimore on the final day of minicamp to serve as a speaker for the Finding Your Path Leadership Conference on Jan. 13 at Towson University's SECU Arena.
Proceeds support the mission of Pathfinders For Autism, the state's largest autism organization. Former Orioles outfielder B.J. Surhoff serves as president of the board.
