Tillman not included in Yankees series (O's lose 6-4)

The Orioles announced their rotation for the Yankees series that begins Thursday night, and Chris Tillman isn't in it. Tillman could have pitched Friday night on regular rest or Saturday night as part of a six-man rotation, but he's being pushed back after being diagnosed yesterday with an inflamed nerve in his right elbow. Jason Hammel will be activated from the disabled list and take the ball on Thursday, his first start since July 13. He will oppose David Phelps, who walked six batters in 4 2/3 innings Saturday before the Yankees rallied to beat the Orioles, 4-3. Hammel is 1-3 with a 6.06 ERA in seven career starts against the Yankees. The rest of the matchups are Wei-Yin Chen vs. Phil Hughes on Friday, Joe Saunders vs. CC Sabathia on Saturday and Zach Britton vs. Freddy Garcia on Sunday. Sabathia is 16-3 with a 2.97 ERA lifetime against the Orioles. Tillman is in Bowie tonight, though he won't pitch for the Baysox in the Eastern League playoffs. He told MASNsports.com's Steve Melewski earlier today that he'll report to Camden Yards on Thursday and take a few more days off before being cleared to throw. He couldn't provide an exact date. As for tonight's game, Adam Jones hit his 27th home run to break a scoreless tie in the second inning, and Manny Machado grounded out with the bases loaded to increase the lead to 2-0. The Orioles let Brandon Morrow off the hook. He walked the bases loaded before Machado's grounder. The Orioles are 19-6 when Jones homers and 17 of his 27 homers have tied the game (three) or given the Orioles the lead (14). The Orioles' scoreless-innings streak ended at 23 on Kelly Johnson's RBI double in the bottom of the second. Update: Rajai Davis tied the game in the third inning with a solo homer off Miguel Gonzalez. Gonzalez hadn't allowed a home run in his last three starts and four of his last five. Going back to Jones, his home run made him 10-for-26 with three homers and nine RBIs lifetime against Morrow. Update II: The Jays broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh on a safety squeeze bunt by Adeiny Hechavarria that scored Yunel Escobar with one out. Escobar led off with a double and took third on Kelly Johnson's bunt single. Luis Ayala let both inherited runners score on Davis' single, and Anthony Gose came home on Jones' throwing error. The defense has disappointed this inning. Gonzalez didn't make the play on Johnson's bunt, J.J. Hardy couldn't backhand Gose's grounder and Jones skipped a throw past Manny Machado. Gonzalez is charged with five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, with no walks, four strikeouts and one home run. Ayala has let 20 of 41 inherited runners score. He stranded three on Monday. The Orioles are 8-55 when they trail after seven innings. Update III: Mark Reynolds' two-run shot in the ninth gave him six homers and 13 RBIs on the road trip. It also made the Orioles 46-20 in games decided by two runs or fewer, as they lost to the Blue Jays, 6-4. The Orioles go 4-2 on the road trip. Always feels less satisfying when the final game is a loss.
