Tillman's keeping the ball in the park

While doing a little research leading up to tonight's Orioles-Tigers game, I took special interest in two statistics that shall be highlighted here.

Chris Tillman has surrendered only one home run this season.

Justin Verlander has never lost at Camden Yards.

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria homered off Tillman in the first inning of an April 8 game at Camden Yards, which continued his pattern of dominance. He's hit seven off Tillman in 54 career at-bats.

No one else has taken Tillman deep over his next five starts. The streak is up to 35 1/3 innings if you start in the second frame on April 8.

Tillman allowed 20 home runs in 173 innings last season, 21 in 207 1/3 innings in 2014 and 33 in 206 1/3 innings in 2013.

Tillman has registered four straight quality starts and he's 4-0 with a 2.96 ERA and 1.051 WHIP in seven career starts against the Tigers spanning 45 2/3 innings.

Anthony Gose is 6-for-14 with a double, triple and six strikeouts versus Tillman. Victor Martinez is 5-for-14 with a double and home run and Miguel Cabrera is 5-for-15 with a double and home run.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, whose last name sounds like it belongs on a Starbucks menu, is 3-for-21 with two doubles and seven strikeouts.

Verlander is 2-3 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.320 WHIP in seven starts over 41 2/3 innings, but he's also engaged to Kate Upton.

In his last start, Verlander shut out the Rangers on three hits and struck out nine batters over seven innings, lowering his ERA from 6.49 to 5.40. He's allowed seven runs in two other starts, in 4 1/3 innings versus the Pirates and five innings versus the Indians.

Verlander is 9-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 16 career starts against the Orioles and 7-0 with a 2.84 ERA in eight starts at Camden Yards.

Matt Wieters is 3-for-24 with a double, triple and home run. Make those hits count.

Wieters' first major league hit was a triple off Verlander in the fifth inning of a May 30, 2009 game at Camden Yards.

Chris Davis is 6-for-25 with 11 strikeouts against Verlander, Adam Jones is 9-for-38 with a double, two home runs and 10 strikeouts, and Pedro Alvarez is 2-for-12 with a double and six strikeouts.

Jones' 662 RBIs are tied with Melvin Mora for eighth place on the Orioles' all-time list. Rafael Palmeiro is seventh with 701.

Zach Britton is 9-for-9 in save opportunities this season and has totaled 82 saves with the Orioles, leaving him one shy of tying Jorge Julio for fifth place on the club's all-time list.

Vance Worley is 4-2 with a 2.32 ERA in 29 career relief appearances, with 13 earned runs in 50 1/3 innings.

Jonathan Schoop has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, batting .321/.333/.509 (17-for-53) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, seven RBIs and eight runs scored.

Manny Machado has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, batting .415/.475/.774 (22-for-53) with seven doubles, four home runs, 12 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Machado is batting .423 (33-for-78) with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored in 19 home games.
