Today's game and pending Paredes decision

Kevin Gausman still doesn't have a win this year despite posting three consecutive quality starts.

Today's opposing pitcher, Tigers rookie Michael Fulmer, is 2-1 despite a 6.00 ERA and 2.000 WHIP in 15 innings. He hasn't made it past the fifth in any of his three starts.

Further proof that a pitcher's won-loss record is largely meaningless.

Gausman has allowed five earned runs and 12 hits, with three walks and 16 strikeouts, over 20 innings in his last three outings. He's surrendered only two home runs this season in 25 innings.

Gausman is 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA and 1.042 WHIP in four career starts against the Tigers spanning 17 innings. The current group is batting .213 (10-for-47) against him, led by Ian Kinsler, who's 3-for-9 with a double.

Fulmer, the 44th overall pick by the Mets in the 2011 draft, is making his fourth start in the majors, all of them on the road. Right-handers are batting .333 against him and left-handers are hitting .394.

Fulmer was part of the trade last summer that sent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to the Mets.

Jonathan Schoop is batting .322/.344/.593 in his last 16 games, with two doubles, one triple, four home runs and 12 RBIs.

Adam Jones is batting .433/.452/.867 during a seven-game hitting streak. He's homered in four of his last five games while going 11-for-21. He's got at least one RBI in five straight games.

Down on the farm, Jimmy Paredes is completing his injury rehab assignment today at Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles must decide what to do with him.

There's clearly no spot for him on the 25-man roster unless they're willing to option Ryan Flaherty, who's been their third baseman, or remove Paul Janish. They've gauged outside interest, including overseas.

The Orioles may have no choice except to designate Paredes for assignment, hope he clears waivers and accepts an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.

If a team claimed Paredes, the Orioles could feel fortunate that they got so much out of him during the first half last season, when he hit .299/.332/.475 with 12 doubles, two triples and 10 home runs in 68 games.
