Berken won his first Major League start on May 26th vs. Toronto, then went 0-9 over 12 starts before beating the Blue Jays on Friday. Right-handed hitters bat .299 vs. Berken while lefties hit .314. The Orioles are 3-11 when he starts. Berken has allowed 17 of his 48 runs and a .365 opponent batting average in the first inning. In eight home starts, he is 1-5, 5.49. On June 6th, Berken took the loss at Oakland in his only previous outing vs. the A's. In just 3 1/3, he gave up seven hits and a season-high nine runs, throwing 73 pitches. RHP Vin Mazzaro (3-8, 5.70) today makes his 14th start of the season, his 9th on the road and his 2nd of this season vs. Baltimore. Mazzaro was 0-8, 7.22 over a ten-start stretch until getting a win Friday at Kansas City. Over five innings, he allowed eight hits and three runs. His eight-game losing streak was the second longest in the AL behind Berken's nine-game streak that also ended last Friday. Right-handed batters hit .320 off Berken and lefties hit .319. In eight road starts, he is 2-4, 5.44. The A's are 4-9 in his 13 previous starts. He was part of a three-pitcher shutout of the Orioles on June 7th at Oakland. He went 7 1/3, allowing five hits with four strikeouts. That's his only career appearance vs. the Birds.
