Tommy Hunter on Cabrera's homer and the blown save in the ninth

In the quiet of the Orioles clubhouse, Tommy Hunter talked about the ninth inning, the win that got away and his third blown save.

"It sucks, man. It's not fun to lose. That's my take on it. I don't like getting beat," he said.

Hunter walked Torii Hunter to put two on with two outs for Miguel Cabrera and Cabrera's three-run shot gave Detroit the 3-1 lead in the ninth. A solo shot from Victor Martinez followed as the Tigers stunned the O's in the ninth.

"You can't let the best hitter in the game, arguably one of the best hitters in the game, come to the plate. So you've got to throw a strike right there (to Hunter) and I missed," Tommy Hunter said.

"It's been a rough couple days. I mean, you know, you don't do your job, it's tough. So that's what's happened.

"It's never fun to be in those situations and I'm the one putting myself in them. You know, just gotta grind, man. It's baseball, it's not easy. Not going through an easy stretch right now and have to battle through it. Get better."

Over his last four outings covering 3 2/3 innings, Hunter has allowed 10 hits and eight runs with two blown saves as his ERA has gone from 2.31 to 6.60.

"They're getting hits, they're hitting the ball," he said. "That is what they are trying to do. Just keep working. It's May, man, it's a long season and I'm going to keep going."

Does he second guess the pitch selection or pitch location to Cabrera, who hit a 1-0 curveball out to left-center field?

"No, I just didn't get it down - I mean, so yes. I throw curveballs to everybody. Not going to change up my game plan," he said. "I've got a fastball and curveball. Got a little cutter, too, every once in a while. But he hit it.

"It's done, it's over, the damage has been done. You gotta be out there tomorrow and ready to go because these guys are counting on you. You've got to move on."

Hunter was asked if he thought manager Buck Showalter would continue to show confidence in him as he did last year with Jim Johnson through some of his struggles?

"I mean, it's my job today and we'll see," he said.

Ubaldo Jimenez had a third straight strong start for the Orioles. He pitched seven scoreless innings and now has an ERA of 0.46 in three May starts.

"Everything is feeling really good right now," Jimenez said. "Able to command the fastball and all the breaking balls are good. (Caleb) Joseph called a great game out there. It was pretty easy to be on the mound and try to execute pitches because he has a really good idea of what he was doing back there. My past two games he was calling a great game.

"It felt good to finally be able to be there for the team here in Baltimore. I know that other people were waiting for that and I'm the first one so it feels good."

Joseph has caught Jimenez's last two starts and talked about working well with the veteran right-hander.

"He's a pro," Joseph said. "That first start in Tampa, he did a good job kind of walking me through it. He's got a really heavy sinker and we relied on that quite a bit. He's been great to work with."

Joseph got the first two caught stealings of his career tonight and also his first big league hit with a single to center in the fourth inning.

"It was good, but it doesn't matter because we lost. Just trying to win games for the Orioles," he said.
