Tommy Hunter talks about going on the disabled list

It was before the game yesterday in Pittsburgh. Tommy Hunter threw a pitch and realized he would not be pitching in the game last night. Today he goes on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain and Preston Guilmet has been recalled from Triple-A. "I threw a couple of pitches and felt it," Hunter said. "Tried to get up on the mound and it didn't feel so good. If you can't pitch, you can't play. It's sore. "Anytime you do anything to move it around it's going to be sore. I shut it down as soon as it happened, so. I went in and got treatment and showed up today." This is not the first time Hunter has dealt with such an issue. "Yeah, I had it a couple of times in Texas," he said. "It's not fun, but you have to get through it. Those were really bad ones. Then I did it again on a rehab stint and set it back a little bit more. Hopefully I just get treatment and will be to go in a couple weeks. "It's never easy to have an injury, something to set you back. But just get healthy. That is the only thing you can do right now and cheer on your teammates." Hunter took the loss May 13 against Detroit. At that point he had allowed eight runs over his previous four games and 3 1/3 innings. But he then put together back-to-back scoreless outings his last two appearances. Now he heads to the DL. He said the groin issue did not surface before yesterday. "No, so, there is really no excuses for those (previous outings) sorry. If that is what everyone is fishing for, sorry. I apologize," Hunter said. Hunter is 1-1 with 11 saves and a 6.06 ERA in 19 games. His 11 saves are tied for the third-most in the American League. Guilmet, 26, has appeared in two games for the Orioles, striking out three in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. In 15 games for Norfolk, Guilmet was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA.
