Tonight's pitching matchup: Bergesen vs. Penny

RHP Brad Penny (6-4, 5.02) tonight is set to make his 19th start of this year, his 10th at home and his second of the season vs. Baltimore. In his last start, Saturday vs. Toronto, Penny gave up six runs and eight hits over five innings. He has pitched to an ERA of 5.94 in July. Penny has allowed 118 hits this year, 11 homers, in 98 2/3 innings. In nine home starts, he is 4-1, 4.53. Last year, Penny went 6-9, 6.27 with the Dodgers. He was their opening-day starter, but was limited to 17 starts by shoulder injuries. The Sox signed him as a free agent January 9th. His career record is 100-79, 4.12 in 263 starts. He picked up his 100th career win June 17th vs. Florida. In his only previous start vs. the Orioles, he faced the Birds back on April 17th. In three innings, he gave up six hits and eight runs, all earned. He did not get a decision.
