Trumbo wins Silver Slugger Award

Mark Trumbo did more than make a sterling comeback in 2016. He also swung a silver bat.

Trumbo won a Silver Slugger Award tonight, the only Oriole to be honored. The announcement came on MLB Network.

Voting is done by managers and coaches. Trumbo was joined in the AL outfield by the Red Sox's Mookie Betts and the Angels' Mike Trout.

The accolades keep piling up for Trumbo, who's already been named Comeback Player of the Year in the American League by Sporting News and in the Players Choice Awards.

Leading the majors with 47 home runs has its privileges.

Trumbo also batted .256/.316/.533 with 27 doubles, a triple and 108 RBIs in 159 games. He earned a second All-Star berth.

Trumbo must decide by Monday whether to accept the offer. He's expected to test the free agent market.

The Orioles had been shut out since 2013, when they set a franchise record with three winners. Awards were given to first baseman Chris Davis, shortstop J.J. Hardy and center fielder Adam Jones.

The club's last individual winner was designated hitter Aubrey Huff in 2008 - also the last winner until 2013.

Trumbo and Jones are the only Orioles outfielders to win a Silver Slugger.

* The Orioles have liked outfielder Josh Reddick for many years and nothing has changed. They're still interested in him, and MLB Network's Jon Morosi offered confirmation today by tweeting that they're "pursuing" Reddick, a free agent who batted .296/.368/.449 in 68 games with the Athletics and .258/.307/.335 in 47 games with the Dodgers. He was sidelined by a fractured thumb.

Reddick, 29, is a left-handed hitting right fielder. He fits the profile.

Reddick's 1.167 OPS at Camden Yards is his highest in any ballpark, but let's not forget that he's been facing Orioles pitching. Pretty sure that wouldn't be allowed if he signed with them.

MLBTradeRumors.com projects that Reddick will sign a three-year, $36 million deal with the Giants.

* The Orioles are replacing the sod at Camden Yards for the first time since 2008. The project is expected to be completed by Dec. 1. Enjoy the Kentucky bluegrass and read more about it here.
