Updates on Steve Johnson, Henry Urrutia and Suk-min Yoon

Right-hander Steve Johnson is headed to Triple-A Norfolk today and will start Wednesday night against the Toledo Mud Hens at Harbor Park.

Johnson has been on the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis. He's made one start with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Orioles and three with short-season Single-A Aberdeen, never going more than three innings.

Johnson will remain on a strict pitch count Wednesday night, likely topping out at 50.

In his most recent start with Aberdeen, Johnson allowed one run and walked four batters in three innings Thursday night, but he didn't permit a hit. All four walks came in the first inning. He also struck out three batters.

Johnson made five starts with Norfolk before going on the DL, allowing 12 runs and 20 hits in 17 2/3 innings with eight walks and 19 strikeouts.

If his shoulder is sound, Johnson could be a bullpen option for the Orioles later this summer.

Outfielder Henry Urrutia, on the DL after undergoing sports hernia surgery, will rejoin Norfolk next week.

Urrutia is 6-for-30 with a double and RBI in eight games with the GCL Orioles. He was batting .220/.250/.293 with six doubles and seven RBIs in 20 games at Norfolk.

Manager Buck Showalter indicated recently that Urrutia still was in play to join the Orioles later this summer.

"There's ways to catch up and be an option for us," Showalter said.

Urrutia appeared in 24 games as a rookie with the Orioles last season, batting .276/.276/.310 with a triple and two RBIs. He was chosen as their minor league Player of the Year in 2013 after he batted a combined .347/.406/.506 with 21 doubles, one triple, nine homers and 50 RBIs in 81 games at Norfolk and Double-A Bowie.

Korean right-hander Suk-min Yoon is starting tonight for Norfolk. He's been on the disabled list with a shoulder impingement.

Yoon was 3-7 with a 5.76 ERA in 15 starts, with 95 hits allowed in 75 innings. He permitted three earned runs or fewer in five of his last seven outings, though he didn't get past the fifth in two of them.

Yoon's contract allows the Orioles to option him this season, but he must give his consent for similar assignments the next two years.
