Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Henry Urrutia has been placed on the seven-day minor league disabled list, retroactive to April 29, with an abdominal strain.
Urrutia is batting .220/.250/.293 with six doubles and seven RBIs in 20 games with the Tides.
The Orioles-Rays game at Camden Yards that was postponed due to rain on April 15 will be made up at 1:05 p.m. on June 27 as part of a split doubleheader.
The Orioles and Pirates are playing Game 1 and Game 2 today. If the Orioles are smart, they'll avoid at Game 7 at all costs.
Too soon?
Manager Buck Showalter challenged a hit-by-pitch ruling on Pirates catcher Tony Sanchez in the second inning, believing the ball deflected off the knob of the bat. He was right, making him 2-for-2 this season.
Sanchez returned to the batter's box and lined to third.
The challenge lasted approximately 3 minutes, 29 seconds. Fans were growing restless as the delay continued.
Showalter also won an earlier challenge on April 19 in Boston related to a call at first base involving Nelson Cruz.
Bud Norris retired the first two Pirates in the first inning before allowing back-to-back singles to Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez. Alvarez's ball deflected off Norris' glove for an infield hit.
Gaby Sanchez struck out on Norris' 20th pitch to end the threat.
Showalter had to decide between Norris and Chris Tillman for the Game 1 assignment.
"It's kind of like Manny (Machado). Got some reasons," he said.
"You look at the catching situation, some other things. You look at the matchups with the pitchers they're pitching. Who might be slightly advantageous to catch one guy versus the other? There's actually about 10 or 11 reasons. J.R. (John Russell) and I went over it with Dave (Wallace). But there are quite a few factors, especially if you look at tomorrow night and look at some other dynamics of all of it.
"We look at much as guys in day games, guys as DHs. You look at some numbers. If there's a real trend there worth grasping. I use it more as a tiebreaker maybe as opposed to making your decision on it."
Norris has a career 4.68 ERA in 37 day games and a 4.26 ERA in 97 night games. Tillman has a 4.12 ERA in 25 day games and a 4.26 ERA in 64 night games.
Showalter noted recently that Tillman appeared to be "too strong" the last time he pitched on extended rest.
"What do you think he'll be today? What do you do? Can't make it not rain," Showalter said.
"Same thing that everybody's fighting in baseball. Some guys handle it differently. He's had a work day and then a touch and feel to try to take some of that... May be a little extra that gets you out of sync in your delivery. But it's like when I asked Tilly which game he was going to pitch. I always do talk to them about it. He doesn't sit there and go, 'Oh my gosh, I'm not going to have a good outing because I've had too much rest.' Or, 'Oh my gosh, I'm not going to have a good outing because I threw 105 pitches last time out and I only got four days rest. Or, 'Oh my gosh, I'm pitching the second game instead of the first game.' He doesn't live in that world, while other people might, and that's why you like him, and a lot of our guys.
"That's an excuse you're waiting to grasp at and he won't. He kind of says it on the side and I bring it up because he won't ever say it publicly. It is what it is and that's why you like him so much. That's a sign of his maturity."
