Nationals left fielder Jayson Werth (wrist) had three at-bats Friday night for high Single-A Potomac in its 7-2 loss to Myrtle Beach.
Werth was the designated hitter and reached first base on a fielding error by the shortstop. He flew out to center field on his second at-bat and grounded out to third in the sixth inning, finishing 0-for-3.
Werth's first at-bat was an error, but he crushed the ball, according to reports from the field. In his second at-bat, he squared up the ball nicely with full extension to deep center field for the flyout. In the third at-bat he rolled over and chopped one to third base.
Potomac right-hander Lucas Giolito (3-5) took the loss, going five innings, allowing six hits, three runs, two earned runs, three walks and striking out four, with one wild pitch.
The next step would be seven innings or nine innings of play for Werth, most likely back in the field. But no official word has been reported for Saturday.
Potomac's final home game of the series is Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Phillips Valdez starts for the P-Nats.
