What's happening now?

Today is the final day for teams to reinstate players from the 60-day disabled list. It's also the day that the Orioles are expected to decline the $3 million option on infielder Alexi Casilla's contract, removing him from the 40-man roster and making him a free agent. Casilla will receive a $200,000 buyout as a nice parting gift. No word on whether he also gets a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco treat. Today is also the last day that teams may tender qualifying offers to their eligible free agents. However, the Orioles won't be offering $14.1 million to second baseman Brian Roberts, left fielder Nate McLouth or pitcher Jason Hammel. Teams who make a qualifying offer receive a draft pick as compensation if the player refuses and signs elsewhere. It's safe to assume that Roberts, McLouth and Hammel would take $14.1 million in 2014. This is the time of year when I sound like a broken record. The Orioles are interested in re-signing Roberts and McLouth. They may attempt to bring back Hammel if they fail to sign another starter. You've heard it all before and you'll hear it again. Here's another one from my greatest hits: The Orioles want to re-sign Scott Feldman, but he may be deemed too expensive to keep, considering that the free-agent market for starting pitchers is underwhelming. What else is going on today? They could put him on the 40-man roster before he hits free agency, protecting him from the Rule 5 draft. Robinson is probably eager to move on after failing to win a job in spring training and dividing the year at Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles acquired him from the Mariners last November for infielder Robert Andino. Anything going on tonight? Glad you asked.
