Wieters updates his ankle

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles catcher Matt Wieters stood at his locker today with his right ankle heavily wrapped. "They do it right here," he said. Wieters is in good spirits despite sustaining a mild sprain of his ankle during yesterday's game against the Red Sox. Steve Clevenger is starting behind the plate today. Wieters rolled the ankle while rounding third base and came out after four innings. "Nothing too major," he said. "Regular season, you'd probably tough through it, but I'll take a couple days off it and get back to full strength and be ready to go in a few days. "I just rolled my ankle. I was coming around third and started to slow down and my ankle just rolled over on me. "It's a little stiff this morning, but other than that, it's not too painful. Regular season, we'd probably take a couple Advil and give it a go." Wieters wouldn't have played the next two days anyway with the Orioles traveling to Tampa and Fort Myers. "We're thinking maybe one less game than it might have been if I didn't roll it, but we'll see," he said. "We'll get treatment on it and ice it up today and hopefully when we come back home be ready to go." The ankle is wrapped to keep the swelling down. "Any swelling, it will kind of push it out right away," he said. As for his workout schedule, Wieters will rest today and may attempt to swing a bat on Thursday. "Just try to stay off my feet today and see how it is tomorrow," he said. "I might take some swings tomorrow if it feels up to it."
