Wieters' catching schedule and tonight's game

Matt Wieters will catch for the Orioles tonight as their series resumes against the Yankees. He's been behind the plate in four games since coming off the disabled list, never going back-to-back.

Asked yesterday if it's tough to provide these off days to Wieters, manager Buck Showalter replied, "It's not tough, because the alternative is he doesn't play at all."

"I'd take him every other day as opposed to not at all," Showalter added. "I'm not even getting into at some point he's going to be able to catch back-to-back. When it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

"I was talking to Matt today - he was in the whirlpool - about the way we're going to handle the DHing, make sure he understands. Matt's going to take some balls at first base, too, just to make sure we can cover ourselves."

Wieters served as the designated hitter last Saturday in his second game this season, but it hasn't happened again.

"It's not that big of a deal if the DH has to go in and catch," Showalter said. "You just manage a National League game for a few innings. But every other day is fine with me. He'll DH a little bit here and there. If we see a matchup that really falls in his favor and he's not scheduled to catch that day, we'll do it."

The Orioles will attempt to move above .500 for the first time since they were 12-11 on May 3. They lost five of their next six games, beginning with Bud Norris' start against the Mets.

Norris is making his second start tonight since coming off the disabled list. He went on the DL after allowing four runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings at Yankee Stadium. He also allowed three runs and five hits in five innings in an April 15 start against New York at Camden Yards.

Norris is 4-1 with a 4.02 ERA in six career starts against the Yankees. Carlos Beltran is 12-for-31 (.387) with six doubles and a home run against him. Stephen Drew is 8-for-22 (.364) with two doubles, a triple and a home run, Chase Headley is 7-for-20 (.350) with two home runs, Mark Teixeira is 2-for-12 (.167) with a double and home run, and Chris Young is 2-for-16 (.125).

Alex Rodriguez, six hits shy of 3,000 and one RBI shy of 2,000, is 2-for-3 with a home run.

Remember when CC Sabathia was really good? He enters tonight's game 3-7 with a 5.25 ERA in 12 starts.

Sabathia is 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA in 31 career starts against the Orioles and 10-6 with a 3.69 ERA in 19 starts at Camden Yards. He allowed four runs and seven hits in seven innings, with one walk and seven strikeouts, on April 14 at Camden Yards.

Nolan Reimold is 9-for-27 (.333) with two doubles and a home run against Sabathia. Delmon Young is 12-for-39 (.308) with three doubles and a home run, J.J. Hardy is 12-for-40 (.300) with seven doubles and a home run, Adam Jones is 18-for-66 (.273) with four doubles, a triple, four home runs and 14 RBIs, and Wieters is 7-for-41 (.171) with two doubles and a home run.
