Will O's and Kevin Gregg be a match?

As of this morning, the Orioles' interest in reliever Kevin Gregg still appears to be strong. The Orioles met with his agents here at the winter meetings on Monday and several teams are reportedly in on Gregg. The 32-year-old right-hander went 2-6, 3.51 with Toronto last season with 37 saves. He fanned 58 over 59 innings. Toronto had two chances to pick up options on Gregg and keep him, but passed. The Jays could have retained him for next year for $4.5 million and they also had an option to keep Gregg for the next two seasons at a cost of $8.75 million. The Baltimore Sun has reported that the O's offered Gregg a two-year deal worth from $8-$10 million. Gregg had, I guess you could call it, an incident late last season at Camden Yards, but I'll be honest to say I don't remember it fully. Manager Cito Gaston came out to take him out of a game and he either flipped the ball to Cito or seemed to show him up a bit, and I can remember that anyone looking that way could clearly tell Cito was not pleased. One source said the O's have done all their due diligence on Gregg, including to check into his background, character and makeup, as they should, of course. Gregg has been described as wanting to prove the doubters wrong for 2011, mostly meaning Toronto, for not picking up his option year or years. Some feel he could provide that veteran presence in the O's pen. It also seems quite possible, as of this morning, that Gregg will sign with someone before these meetings end Thursday. But, as with everything here, things can change fast.
