A close game turned into a last-inning blowout tonight as the Yankees scored seven runs off Jim Johnson and Dennis Sarfate in the 9th and beat the Orioles 10-2 Wednesday.
The Yankees sweep the three-game series and have won ten in a row vs. the Orioles for the first time since 1955.
Winning pitcher CC Sabathia gave up one run and seven hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts. He improved to 16-7, 3.48.
In three starts vs. the Orioles since allowing six runs to the Birds on opening day, he has allowed just 2ER over 23 innings for an ERA of 0.78.
The Orioles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Brian Roberts led off with a bunt single and later scored on a Nick Markakis sac fly.
Eric Hinske led off the top of the third with a homer for a 1-1 tie. New York scored twice in the 7th for a 3-1 edge on an Alex Rodriguez two-run single to center off Kam Mickolio.
Nolan Reimold's homer in the 8th made it a 3-2 game before New York scored seven runs on seven singles in the top of the 9th.
Rodriguez had a two-run single in the frame to finish with a three-hit, four RBI night.
O's starter Jason Berken did not get a decision, allowing one run and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. Berken has pitched to an ERA of 2.81 over his last three starts.
The O's fall to 2-5 on this ten-game homestand. They are off Thursday before hosting Texas for three games over the weekend.
