Brinley and Ward named to AFL West Division Fall Stars team

Right-hander Ryan Brinley and third baseman Drew Ward have been named to the West Division team for Saturday's Arizona Fall League 11th annual Fall Stars Game in Surprise, Ariz.

The game will televised on MLB Network and streamed on MLB.com at 8:08 p.m. ET.

Current and former Nationals who have participated in this game include Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Derek Norris, Brian Goodwin, Ben Revere, Trevor Gott and Anthony Rendon.

Ryan-Brinley-throwing-white-P-Nats-sidebar.jpgScouting and farm directors from every major league club, in consultation with AFL director Steve Cobb and his baseball staff, selected the rosters. Every major league team could have at least one participant voted onto the squad.

The 23-year-old Brinley (1-1) continues to pitch well in Arizona. In five appearances, he has a 2.84 ERA and is tied for fifth in league play with only two earned runs allowed.

Ward, 21, is hitting .381, which is second overall in AFL play. His 16 hits are tops in fall league competition, with Astros left fielder Ramon Laureano second with 13.
