Five Orioles confirmed for Arizona Fall League

WASHINGTON - The Orioles have five confirmed representatives playing in the Arizona Fall League, with room for more additions.

The Surprise Saguaros roster includes pitchers Dean Kremer, Alex Wells and David Lebron and infielders Rylan Bannon and Mason McCoy.

Single-A Delmarva manager Kyle Moore is serving as one of the coaches.

The Orioles also have spots reserved for one more pitcher and an outfielder. It's possible that Double-A Bowie's Yusniel Diaz fills the latter spot after missing chunks of the season with hamstring and quadriceps injuries and a stint on the paternity leave list.

Kremer, 23, was acquired from the Dodgers last summer in the Manny Machado trade. Returning from an oblique injury that prevented him from pitching in spring training, Kremer went 9-4 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.228 WHIP in 15 starts with Bowie, striking out 87 batters in 84 2/3 innings.

The Orioles promoted Kremer to Triple-A Norfolk and he's made three starts in the International League, allowing 16 runs and 22 hits with four walks and 16 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings.

Baseball America ranks Kremer as the No. 9 prospect in the organization.

Alex-Wells-Bowie-Baysox-Delivers-Black-Sidebar.jpgWells, 22, is 8-4 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.047 WHIP in 22 starts with Bowie. He's surrendered only seven home runs and walked 21 batters in 128 innings.

The Orioles signed Wells in August 2015 and he was named the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017. Baseball America ranks him as the No. 16 prospect in the system.

Orioles executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias acquired Lebron, 25, from the Rangers on Feb. 24 for international signing bonus slot money. He's 2-5 with a 4.38 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 21 games (17 starts) with Single-A Frederick.

Lebron has struck out 87 batters in 78 innings.

McCoy, a sixth-round pick in 2017 out of the University of Iowa, is batting a combined .296/.353/.387 in 27 games with Frederick and 99 with Bowie. He began his breakthrough season with the Keys by slashing .379/.416/.509 to earn the promotion.

Baseball America ranks McCoy at No. 27, one spot below Bannon.

The Orioles obtained Bannon, 23, in the Machado trade. He batted .255/.345/.394 with 22 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 42 RBIs in 110 games at Bowie and .351/.361/.596 with eight doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs in 14 games with Norfolk.

The AFL season begins on Sept. 18.
