Jones, Machado, Britton and O'Day chosen as AL All-Stars (updated)

The Orioles will have four representatives in Cincinnati next week for the 86th All-Star Game, including two first-timers from their bullpen.

Center fielder Adam Jones has made his fifth All-Star team and third baseman Manny Machado is selected as a reserve for the second time in his career. They're joined by closer Zach Britton and set-up man Darren O'Day, novices to the Midsummer Classic.

Jones, also an All-Star in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014, is batting 286/.334/.464 with 13 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 38 RBIs in 71 games. He was in a 5-for-36 slump over his past 10 games before going 2-for-4 yesterday in Chicago.

Jones, hindered by injuries to his right shoulder and left ankle, placed seventh in balloting with 6,334,939 votes after starting the past two summers.

Machado, who turned 23 today, is batting .299/.356/.522 with 18 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs, 46 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. He also brings a reputation for defensive excellence despite his 12 errors this season.

Machado, who finished third in the All-Star balloting with 2,609,499 votes, already has reached his career highs in home runs, steals and walks (30). He was chosen as an All-Star reserve in 2013.

Since moving into the leadoff spot, Machado is batting .308/.364/.538 with 14 doubles, a triple, 13 home runs, 34 RBIs, 40 runs, 21 walks and eight stolen bases in 263 plate appearances over 60 games.

Britton makes his first All-Star team in his second season as closer, a role he inherited in May 2014. It's also his second season as a full-time reliever.

Britton's 23 saves in 24 opportunities are second in the American League behind the Twins' Glen Perkins (27), and he's converted 19 in a row. The left-hander has registered a 1.82 ERA with seven walks and 41 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings. Opponents are batting .219 against him.

Britton leads major league relievers in ground ball percentage (75.6) and ranks second in the American League in ground ball/fly ball ratio (7.22).

O'Day is 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 33 appearances, with 18 hits, eight walks and 42 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings. He's been deserving for the past few seasons and finally made it - and in his free-agent year, which doesn't hurt.

Perhaps O'Day can use this time to bond with Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista.

Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen was bypassed despite a 2.84 ERA in 15 starts.

Fans may begin casting votes on MLB.com to select an extra player on both teams, known as the All-Star Game Final Vote. Fans are allowed to choose from a list of five players until 4 p.m. on Friday.

The All-Star Game will be played on July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Note: Former No. 1 draft pick Matt Hobgood, out for the remainder of the season following shoulder surgery, sent out the following tweet earlier today:

Update: On the night of his 23rd birthday and with news breaking that he's heading to the All-Star Game, Machado led off the game with a home run, his 18th of the season.
