Kiebooms light up box scores in Friday night minor league update

Friday night highlights for high Single-A Potomac included shortstop Carter Kieboom and third baseman Jake Noll each cranking solo homers. Designated hitter Austin Davidson contributed a two-run triple in a 9-2 victory over Wilmington.

Right-hander Sterling Sharp (1-0) surrendered only one run in five innings, striking out six.

Second baseman Bryan Mejia later added a two-run double while left fielder Telmito Agustin scored one with a double as well. Catcher Tres Barrera had an RBI double and right fielder Rhett Wiseman picked up a run-scoring two-bagger.

The P-Nats scored seven of their runs with two outs in the inning. They went 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Noll has hit two homers in two games.

Later, left-hander Hayden Howard pitched two scoreless innings. Right-hander Mariano Rivera III also went two frames, allowing only a solo homer to Khalil Lee.

The P-Nats are at home tonight against Wilmington at 6:35 p.m. with right-hander Joan Baez to the hill. Hopefully, Baez fires more Diamonds than Rust (sorry).

* The biggest takeaway from Friday's Triple-A Syracuse game was the pitching of starter Austin Voth. The right-hander gave up only one run on three hits with six strikeouts in five frames. Syracuse led 5-1 when he departed. But Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rallied with five runs in the ninth to win it 6-5.

Spencer-Kieboom-close.jpgAndrew Stevenson crushed a three-run shot for the offense. Irving Falu went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double. Spencer Kieboom and Adrian Sanchez each had two hits. Victor Robles went 1-for-5 with a stolen base. José Marmolejos and Moises Sierra also tallied base hits.

But Tim Collins allowed three runs and Christopher Smith gave up an Abiatal Avelino walk-off three-run home run on a line drive over the right-field fence. David Goforth pitched two scoreless frames and Carlos Torres added one shutout inning prior to the ninth.

* First baseman Dan Gamache had two doubles in Bowie's 7-1 win over Harrisburg.

* Rome toppled Hagerstown (0-2) 3-1. Brandon Boggetto and Kameron Esthay had the only hits for the Suns. Esthay had an RBI double. Carlos Acevedo tossed three shutout innings in relief for the Suns, striking out three and walking two, allowing no hits.
