Ohlendorf coming up, Garcia transfered to 60-day DL

The Nationals have announced they've officially selected the contract of right-hander Ross Ohlendorf from Triple-A Syracuse, and they'll hand the ball to the 30-year-old tonight out in Colorado. To make room for Ohlendorf on the 25-man roster, the Nats optioned right-hander Nathan Karns to Double-A Harrisburg. Karns went 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA in three starts with the Nats. To make room for Ohlendorf on the 40-man roster, which is currently full, the Nats have transferred right-hander Christian Garcia to the 60-day DL. This is a procedural move that allows the Nats to open up a spot for Ohlendorf. It does not in any way mean that Garcia has suffered a setback in his rehab from a partially torn tendon in his right forearm. Because Garcia has already served more than 60 days on the DL and is still on his rehab assignment, the Nats can move him from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL, which takes him off the 40-man roster. When Garcia is ready to return, which might not be more than in a couple of weeks, the Nats can add him back to the 40-man roster and either bring him up to the majors or option him to a minor league affiliate. Garcia has made two appearances with Triple-A Syracuse since getting moved up from Double-A on his rehab assignment. Last night, Garcia threw a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and striking out one. Ohlendorf was signed by the Nats to a minor league deal this January. He went 4-5 with a 4.27 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) this season with Syracuse. Ohlendorf has made three career starts at Coors Field, posting a 6.94 ERA in those outings.
