Orioles GCL and DSL rosters and All-Star game results

The Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Orioles have begun a new season in Sarasota, Fla. The club's opening-day roster included 16 players from the 2018 draft, including nine pitchers, two catchers, two infielders and three outfielders.

Here is the roster and we've noted the draft round for the players on this roster taken in the 2018 First-Year Player Draft.

Pitchers: Felix Bautista, Andrew Ciolli (round 37), Matthew De La Rosa, Cody Hacker (round 15), Matt Hammonds, Tyler Joyner (round 30), Dallas Litscher (round 10), Kevin Magee (round 9), Parker McFadden (round 16), Jason Montville (round 27), Moises Nolasco, Leonardo Rodriguez, Yellin Rodriguez Jayvien Sandridge (round 32), Adam Stauffer, Gillian Wernet, Jake Zebron (round 18).

Catchers: Matthew Beaird (round 36), Jared Denning (round 29), Jose Lizarraga, Jose Montanez.

Infielders: Carlos Baez, Ian Evans (round 26), Zach McLeod (round 33), Juan Montes, Irving Ortega.

Outfielders: Jacob Brown, Andrew Jayne (round 19), Davis Tavarez, Trey Truitt (round 34), Trey Whitley (round 28).

The GCL Orioles are managed by Carlos Tosca who is in his second season with this club. He's spent 18 years on major league staffs including parts of three seasons (2002-04) as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. Tosca was bench coach for three seasons in Arizona for then D-backs manager Buck Showalter starting in 1998. Milt May, in his ninth year in the O's organization, is the club's hitting coach and Wilson Alvarez is pitching coach. This is his sixth year as GCL O's pitching coach.

The Orioles invite fans of all ages to enjoy summer baseball at Ed Smith Stadium as the Gulf Coast League Orioles take the Main Field for 28 home games that began yesterday. The home slate also includes family-friendly events with community partners, giveaways, and daily food specials. The GCL O's have begun the year going 0-2, allowing 22 runs. As for the hitters, Evans is 3-for-8 with a double and RBI. Montanez is 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Ortega is 2-for-7 with two runs and two RBIs.

The DSL Orioles are in first place at 10-5 in their division of a 44-team league. Yep 44 teams. The Orioles team ERA of 3.00 ranks seventh-best in the DSL. Gomez is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA through three starts. Arias has an ERA of 0.82 in four games with 13 strikeouts in 11 innings. Constante has not allowed an earned run over 10 1/3 innings with one walk to 16 strikeouts. At the plate, Estevez is batting .294 with six doubles, one homer and eight RBIs.

Five members of the Single-A Frederick Keys played for the North team that lost 7-6 to the South in last night's Carolina League All-Star game. Center fielder Ryan McKenna led off the game with a double and scored. He went 1-for-2. Preston Palmeiro played the whole game at second base, going 1-for-5 with a double. Alex Wells pitched one inning allowing one hit and two unearned runs with no walks or strikeouts. Lefty Tyler Erwin took the loss. Over 2/3 of an inning he gave up two hits and three runs. Cristian Alvarado pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing no hits or runs.

Four players from Single-A Delmarva played for the North team that lost 9-5 to the South in the South Atlantic League All-Star game. Seamus Curran batted fourth and played first base, going 0-for-3. Zach Jarrett played left and batted eighth, going 0-for-2. Trevor Craport hit eighth at third base and had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs. Right-hander Matthias Dietz pitched a scoreless and hitless inning, throwing 15 of his 17 pitches for strikes.
