Romero reinstated, joins low Single-A Hagerstown Suns

The Nationals have placed left-hander Seth Romero on the low Single-A Hagerstown Suns active roster. He will make his first start for the Suns on Thursday night at home against Lakewood.

Romero-Throws-Cougars-Sidebar.jpgRomero, the club's top selection in the 2017 first-year player draft, was sent home from Nats spring training for violating club policy March 5. The violation was of a Nats' club policy and not a Major League Baseball infraction. His initial appearance this season with the Suns will be his first one in pro ball for the 2018 campaign.

Romero, 22, arrived late last summer and appeared in six games with short-season Auburn and one game with the Gulf Coast Nationals, finishing with a 0-1 record and a 4.91 ERA. He racked up 25 strikeouts to eight walks in 22 innings. Only once did he throw more than 62 pitches, that was 86 in his final start September 5.

The 6-foot-3, 240 lbs., southpaw went 4-5 with a 3.51 ERA in his junior season for the Houston Cougars, but was dismissed from the team May 10. He was the first-round selection (25th overall) for the Nats.
