Westburg and Cowser on bench in tonight's Orioles lineup, Povich makes second major league start

Austin Hays is in left field again tonight after collecting three hits in the series opener against the Braves.

Hays is slashing .347/.377/.592 (17-for-49) since returning from the injured list on May 13. He has 10 hits in his last 21 at-bats.

Jorge Mateo is batting .353 when ahead in the count this season. He’s at second base again and Ramón Urías is at third. Jordan Westburg goes to the bench.

Cedric Mullins is in center field, putting Colton Cowser on the bench. Ryan O’Hearn is in right field and batting cleanup.

Anthony Santander is serving as the designated hitter.

Tonight’s game pits former Nebraska teammates against each other – Orioles left-hander Cade Povich, making his second major league start, and Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach, making his third.

Povich debuted in Toronto and allowed six runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked four batters and struck out two.

Schwellenbach has allowed nine runs and 12 hits in 9 2/3 innings. He’s walked three batters and struck out nine.

The Orioles are a season-high 22 games above .500 after winning five in a row and 15 of their last 19. They can win their 15th series tonight.

The Orioles have homered in 11 consecutive games, their longest streak since April 29-May 10, 2021. They had a 12-game streak in September 2019.

They’ve recorded six shutouts and two in the last four games. Their 33 shutouts since the start of the 2022 season are the second-most in the American League and are tied for fourth in the majors.

The Yankees continue to lead the division by 2 ½ games.
