Yankees lineup and a few notes

For the Yankees: Derek Jeter SS Curtis Granderson CF Mark Teixeira 1B Alex Rodriguez 3B Robinson Cano 2B Nick Swisher RF Jorge Posada DH Russell Martin C Brett Gardner LF A.J. Burnett RHP J.J. Hardy is batting .378 (14-for-37) with a home run, two RBIs and eight runs scored during his eight-game hitting streak, but he's 0-for-28 in six games against the Yankees this season. Manager Buck Showalter spoke about Mike Flanagan before today's game. "It was pretty appropriate that Friday night is when we wear our black jerseys," he said. "I was talking to Freddy (Tyler), who was on the road trip with us, about trying to wear them yesterday. We didn't have enough for some of the new guys we had called up. "Kind of fortunate in a way that we had a day game yesterday - 12-something. In a lot of ways. But it's not something that you're ever going to be able to put behind you. But going in there, I was talking to Kenny (Singleton) today about the last homestand. Mike brought a can of Oriole pine tar from 1960. He found it at a flea market . Or his wife found it. And it's sitting on top of my desk there, and when I got back last night, first thing (I saw). I don't think I'll ever go get a cup of coffee back there without thinking about it, thinking about him. No, it hasn't gotten any easier. And I'm not trying to lose that emotion. It's not something I'm trying to figure out a way to get around." About the mood of the players, Showalter said, "The employee assistance people were here last night when we got here. I talked to them some. I was probably the last one to leave here late last night. But everybody that left, everybody is pretty worn from the road trip. You walk in and try to check in like I always do with everybody. Different people have a different relationship. I had one player come in after I made them aware of what was going on after the game, and he wanted me to explain what had gone on and who Mike was. Because Mike wasn't a guy that was in anybody's business. He wasn't in the locker room trying to ... he was always there if somebody wanted to seek him out. He was such a source of wisdom for so many people, including me. I think everybody's on a different level with it. But this is some uncharted territory. "I'm not looking at it from a competitive standpoint, how it's going to affect our club, OK? How people chose to handle it, how it affects them, the concern. I know where I'm concerned, talking to Jim Palmer and Scotty and some other guys. I was down there talking to Kenny Singleton and Jim. As much as it bothers me, I can't imagine them, what they are going through."
