The Nationals get their second crack at Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke tonight. The National League All-Star starter handcuffed the Nationals in D.C. on July 19, striking out a season-high 11 while yielding just three hits over eight scoreless innings in the Dodgers' 5-0 shutout win.
Greinke's 1.71 ERA is still the best in the majors, but he was tagged for six runs in six innings in his last outing in Philadelphia on Thursday.
Nationals right-hander Joe Ross is set to make his eighth start of the year but first since manager Matt Williams locked the rookie into the rotation. Ross claimed his third win on Thursday, holding the Diamondbacks to one run over six innings while striking out seven without issuing a walk. The 22-year-old has struck out 47 and walked just four over his seven starts.
The Nationals will play without Bryce Harper after the slugger was scratched from Williams' original lineup tonight because of left knee soreness. Clint Robinson makes his sixth start of the season in right field in place of Harper.
With Jayson Werth returning to the lineup, Robinson has seen limited playing time over the last two weeks. He's 3-for-18 (.167) with a homer and three RBIs over his previous 10 games.
Robinson did collect one of the Nationals' three hits against Greinke with a line drive single to right three weeks ago.
