Detwiler officially placed on DL, Haren to start Monday

The Nationals have made it official, putting left-hander Ross Detwiler on the disabled list with a lower back strain. Detwiler's DL stint will be retroactive to July 4, meaning he'll be eligible to come off the DL on July 19, the Nationals' first game after the All-Star break. It's unclear, however, how much time Detwiler will need to get past the lingering back stiffness that has been an issue for the last 10 days or so. Right-hander Dan Haren will come of the disabled list Monday and take Detwiler's spot in the rotation. Haren, who has been on the DL since June 25 (the stint was retroactive to June 23) with right shoulder inflammation, will start Monday night against the Phillies. Rookie right-hander Taylor Jordan will remain in the Nats rotation and start Tuesday. Jordan has posted a 2.70 ERA in his first two big league starts, spanning 10 innings. Haren went 4-9 with a major league-worst 6.15 ERA prior to landing on the DL. He received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder and got a chance to rest, and said a couple days ago that he feels much better now than he did in his last few starts before going on the DL. Meanwhile, this marks the second time in the last two months that Detwiler has landed on the DL. He was sidelined by an oblique strain in mid-May. Detwiler is 2-7 with a 4.04 ERA in 13 starts this season.
