It's been a weird week for the Nationals in New York leading up to this afternoon's series finale against the Mets. The coaching staff rejoined the team on Monday's off-day. Tuesday's game was suspended in the second inning. In Wednesday's resumption, the Nats blew a 4-1 lead, then went up 7-4 and blew that lead before finally losing 8-7. And then yesterday's regularly scheduled game had to be rescheduled as a part of an early doubleheader today.
Let's hope everything goes smoothly for today's finale at Citi Field before the Nats return home for a five-game homestand. Luckily, there's no chance of rain in today's forecast in New York.
Sean Nolin, the left-hander the Nationals called up just yesterday, will start the twinbill opener, making his first major league appearance since 2015. At Triple-A Rochester this season, Nolin had a 3.80 ERA in 11 games (nine starts).
Between big league outings, Nolin bounced around the minor leagues, independent ball and Japan before signing a minor league deal with the Nationals in March.
Tanner Rainey, once again, has been added as the 27th man for today's doubleheader.
Marcus Stroman gets the ball for the first game for the Mets. He's 7-11 with a 2.83 ERA on the season. In his only start against the Nats, on April 24, he gave up five runs (four earned) and eight hits over four innings in a loss.
