The Washington Nationals recalled outfielder Michael A. Taylor on Monday and placed shortstop Trea Turner on the 10-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain, retroactive to April 9. Nationals president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Taylor, who was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, returns after just two games on the Syracuse roster. Taylor made the Nationals' opening day roster for the third straight year, though he did not appear in any of the team's first four games.
A versatile outfielder, Taylor has hit .228 with 22 home runs, 29 doubles, three triples, 84 RBIs, 80 runs scored and 30 stolen bases in his 231 career major league games.
Turner, 23, will visit the disabled list for the first time in his young major league career. The runner-up for the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year, Turner was 3-for-19 with a double and three stolen bases in the Nationals' first five games of the 2017 season. The shortstop was removed from the game due to hamstring tightness in the first inning on Saturday.
