Nats blown out 10-3 (Escobar hurt, Turner debuts)

With two outs in the first, Milwaukee's Adam Lind lifted a foul pop toward the seats on the third base side. Third baseman Yunel Escobar chased in pursuit, crashing into the railing and then into a fan. Unable to make the catch, Escobar remained down as Ian Desmond signaled for assistance.

It appeared Escobar injured his left side colliding with the top rail and then his upper body, which flung into a gentleman in the front row.

Nationals manager Matt Williams and head athletic trainer Lee Kuntz tended to Escobar, who left the game on his own power.

Anthony Rendon shifted from second base to third base, while Danny Espinosa entered the game at second base.

Left-hander Gio Gonzalez whiffed Lind, finishing the opening frame with two strikeouts.

Update: Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson issued a costly two-out walk to Ian Desmond in the second. With Jose Lobaton batting, Desmond took off for second, sliding in safely. Moments later, Lobaton flared a single to left, plating Desmond for the game's first run.

Update II: With one out in the third, Rendon couldn't come up with Jean Segura's grounder, allowing the Brewers shortstop to reach on an infield single. Segura then stole second, where he scored easily from when Jayson Werth misplayed a liner off the bat of Jonathan Lucroy into a double. it appeared that Werth took a step in, leaving him no chance as the screamer sailed over his head.

With Ryan Braun batting, Gonzalez and Lobaton got their signals messed up, resulting in a passed ball. Lucroy took third on the play, then tagged and scored when Braun drove a deep fly out to right.

Update III: Lucroy singled to start the fifth and then advanced to third on Lind's double. Lucroy tagged and scored on Khris Davis' sacrifice fly to center.

Domingo Santana then drilled a two-run homer to left off Gonzalez. Gonzalez finished the inning but was replaced by Doug Fister in the sixth.

Gonzalez allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He threw 91 pitches over five innings.

Doug Fister followed Gonzalez to the mound for the sixth.

Bryce Harper belted a solo home run over the wall in right-center field off Nelson in the sixth. The solo shot was Harper's 31st homer on the season.

Update IV: Four singles, a walk, a catcher's interference call and an error led to five Brewers runs in the seventh.

Midway through the debacle, Williams yanked Fister for Tanner Roark. He also pulled Desmond on the double switch and inserted rookie Trea Turner for his major league debut.

Michael A. Taylor crushed a solo homer, his 12th, in the bottom of the frame.

Turner then hit a slow grounder to shortstop, nearly beating Segura's throw to first. Williams challenged the call, but the ruling stood.

Update V: The Nats went quietly in the ninth with Turner hitting a grounder for the final out.

The Brewers beat the Nats 10-3.
